Stuttgart is the capital of the state of Baden-Württenberg and it is located 150 kilometres south of Frankfurt. During the Xth century a German Duke, Liutolf, established a "studgarten" or horse farm north of the Jura suabianos. The city took its name from the horse farm and there is a horse figure present in its coat of arms. The city also makes honour of its name as a "garten" (German term meaning garden), as more than half of the city's downtown area is made up by parks and gardens.
The city's port is found on the North Eastern side of Stuttgart, next to the Neckar river, on which sides there are various industrial plants. Among them is the Daimler-Benz, most ancient car manufacturing plant in the world, founded in 1890, where you can visit its museum and Gottlieb Daimler's original workshop (1834-1900). The city is also a producer of electronic devices, machinery, precision tools and textiles. Its population is of more than 600,000 inhabitants.
Stuttgart's geographic situation is, no doubt, one of the most privileged among European cities. The city is surrounded by small hills, forests and vineyards and offers a very attractive surrounding for those who visit it. There are a number of castles from which two of them stand out, The New Palace and the Ancient Castle, both of them located in the wonderful Palace Square. Other outstanding buildings are the National Gallery of Stuttgart, The National Opera of Stuttgart, the zoo and botanic garden "Wilhelma", the Mercedes-Benz and Porsche museums, as well as the Television Tower.
MÚNICH is Germany's best known city after Berlin. It counts with all the characteristics that are expected to be found in a cosmopolitan city. On the other hand, it is sufficiently small to be visited in one day and has the additional charm of its location, the alpine mountains and lakes only a few hours away by car. The best time of the year to visit this area is from June to October, when the outdoors beer breweries and the street cafés are full of life.
Another must is the city of BAMBERG, where 30 different types of beer are produced and the Rauchbier is the one that stands out. Bamberg's isolation has protected it from the destructions of war and it is now-a-days one of the most beautiful small cities in the world, where all European styles, starting with the Romanesque, have left their trace.
